What is a GIA certificate?

We would like to start this article by saying that all the precious stones sold by the Valmand team are accompanied by a GIA certificate attesting to their authenticity. We will go into details regarding this certificate and we will explain why it is important both for jewelers and jewels, as well as for the customers who purchase them.

What is a GIA certificate?

A GIA diamond is a gemstone that has been certified by the GIA. This is a nonprofit organization that conducts research on precious stones, educates professionals in the field and sets the standards that determine the quality of diamonds.  You have probably heard about the 4Cs that determine quality: color, clarity, cut and carats. GIA was the organization that created this standard, along with the scientific procedure and terminology to describe it.

GIA does not mine diamonds, nor does it buy or sell them. They operate independently of commercial interests, ensuring that traded diamonds are graded in an objective manner.

Is every diamond a GIA?

Not every diamond has been graded by the GIA. However, there is a large amount of such diamonds on the market. This shows that many jewelers trust the independent services of GIA and that they prefer to use such precious stones.

To make sure that the diamond you buy is one that has passed the GIA quality tests, you should ask for the GIA certificate. It contains a list of specifications that represent the 4Cs, but also a unique serial number. You can access the GIA database using this number to ensure that your diamond is genuine.

As I said, at Valmand we only use GIA certified diamonds, whose 4C are very good. We do this because we want customers who are satisfied with their purchase, who come back with pleasure every time they need a new piece of jewelry.
